WI ARCHIVES

The earliest record we have of Loders WI is the accounts book dated 1929.  Sadly, the Minutes of those Meetings for that year and the years following were not kept until June 1939,  just before the outbreak of World War II.  The Minutes of the Monthly Meetings and the Committee Meetings provide an insight into the lives and interests of local women and how these have changed over the years.

This is an ongoing project and we will add more documents as and when they are available.

Monthly Members Meetings

Although records show that there was a Loders WI in 1928, we only have Minutes from 1939 at the beginning of World War 2 until 1940 when it was decided to suspend the meetings due to many members "occupied with work of National Importance".   It was not until 1947, on the 10th June, that it was agreed to reform the  Loders WI with  a new Committee and we celebrated our 75th Anniversary in 2022.

Loders WI in 1963 by Members

In 1963 Mrs  Muriel Radley and members of Loders WI made and illustrated a book on the activities of Loders WI during that year.  24 Members took their part in writing the story and these contributions were edited and illustrated by Mrs Radley.  Its a wonderful piece of work by the members and I'm sure you will enjoy the artwork.  Mrs Radley was a member of Loders WI from 1962 until 1966, and from 1963-1965 was WI Secretary.

Loders Back-Along

In Bernard Paull's book, "Loders Back-Along", he writes about schoolboy memories from the 1950s and pictures from even earlier.   On pages 150 and 151 he gives reports of the local newspapers showing that Loders WI was active from 1919 to 1940 and post World War II.

He has given us his kind permission to reproduce these pages on our website.
